E3 2007 Preview

Aqua Teen Hunger Force has long-been one of the most popular shows on the Cartoon Network’s adult swim programming block. The series has garnered a huge cult following, and even a feature film. Now Master Shake, Frylock and Meatwad are making the leap to video games with Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Zombie Ninja Pro-Am exclusively for PS2. A hybridization of action, racing, and of course, golf (…?), Zombie Ninja Pro-Am will feature all of the goofy elements that make the show so appealing at 1:30 in the morning, complete with with many esoteric references from the cartoon as well as voice work and writing from the show’s cast and creators.

The golf elements in Zombie Ninja Pro-Am are pretty basic. You use whatever happens to be in Master Shake’s hands in the moment, be it a golf club or a sword, to thwack the ball as hard as you can in efforts to get it on the green. However, once you start your trek to where you hit the ball, you begin to run into trouble, like enemies trying to attack you and so on. Therefore, you must use a range of weapons like swords, shotguns, chainsaws, and, umm, public lice spray, in order to get to your ball for the next shot.

The game’s combat is pretty simplistic, giving you some very simple combos (like X, X, X) o use as Master Shake. You can also play as the other member of the group, with Frylock shooting magical powers out of his eyes (ranged weapons), and Meatwad turning into things like a hotdog or an igloo in order to distract enemies. You’ll also gain access to items from the TV Show, like the Foreigner Belt, the Broodwich (which you have to collect the pieces of for a special reward), and several others. Getting the ball in the hole is easier said than done, as each hole requires you to beat the boss, like Carl for example, before it allows you to continue.

Aside from the combat and golfing elements, the game will feature some Mario Kart-style racing. One area entitled “The Frat & the Furious” had the player racing against the two Frat Aliens around a series of checkpoints on the golf course. Along the way you are able to use weapons to the put them behind you, but be careful, because his dad totally owns a dealership.

Zombie Ninja Pro-Am also features voice work and writing by the ATHF team, including the voice of Dana Snyder as Master Shake. ATHF fans take note, this one will be out this fall.
