NCAA Football 08 Wins Big in the Home of the BSU Broncos

EA Sports’ latest NCAA football release a big hit in the Treasure Valley, home of the cover BSU Broncos

When EA Sports decided to put Jared Zabransky and Boise State University on the cover of the new release of NCAA football, NCAA Football 08, they may have thought that the title would be a winner back in the vicinity of the Broncos’ recognizable blue turf. But according to a story published in the Wednesday, July 18th edition of the Idaho Press-Tribune (a daily newspaper in Nampa, Idaho – a town that is less than 20 miles from Boise), the games have been flying off the shelves.

Matt Smith, a sports reporter, talked with retailers and a Game Crazy store in Nampa reported that sales of the game have been very good. On a normal release day, the assistant manager of the store stated they may have sold 10 copies of the game, but with BSU on the cover, 50 copies (spanning the various platforms) were sold. The Boise Best Buy even had a tournament to commemorate the game’s release. The winner of the tourney, which concludes Saturday, will receive a new PS3, a copy of the game and a 32-inch Insignia LCD TV.

Jesse Zentz, a reporter for the Idaho Statesman (Idaho’s largest daily newspaper, located in Boise) reported that at other outlets, copies of the game were flying off the shelves. An EB Games store in the Boise Towne Square Mall reported (at the time the story printed) that it expected to sell out its 400 copies of the game by the end of the release day (which was Tuesday, July 17).

NCAA Football 08 is now available on the PlayStation 2 and PLAYSTATION 3, and Xbox and Xbox 360 and is rated E by the ESRB.
