Those who haven’t played it likely don’t know it. But those who have played it probably won’t forget it any time soon. Monolith, the developer behind F.E.A.R., published Condemned on the Xbox 360 at around the same time as they were readying their uber-freaky PC shooter, and the results were two of the eeriest games of 2005, and arguably ever. Now, the team at Monolith is readying Condemned 2 and adding a lot more features and interesting new gameplay mechanics. Not only that, but the game will be just as (if not more) gross, dirty, and downright creepy as before.
A new element in Condemned 2 is emotional responses that allow you “to be a bad ass”. These let you perform a special response to NPCs if you react within a certain timeframe, like kicking a door open instead of waiting for them to open it, replying with a smart-assed remark or a middle finger, and so on.
Additionally, the fighting system has been updated quite a bit. Dual hand fighting has been mapped to each hands respective two triggers on the controller, allowing for easier combos. You can also catch weapons that are thrown at you and throw them back, bust arms and then take down the enemy before they have time to relocate their shoulders, and freestyle your own finishers instead of pressing one of four predetermined ones.
Another new element is the new forensics system. You must build evidence based on what you see as the player, selecting from a list that asks whether or not the victim is a man or woman, any evidence as to who they are, and how they were killed and so on. Answering these correctly based on your observations will garner you a higher score, and more points for upgrades at the end of the stage.
The last new thing in the game is the inclusion of Bum Fight Club. In Bum Fight Club, you take your personal character and team them up against a customizable set of angry transients with whatever weapons you want. The trick is to stay alive the longest, and gamers will be able to compare scores in Xbox Live via Leaderboards.
Condemned 2 is looking to be an even more psycho experience than the original, and should be one to look out for.
